I have a new nephew! He made his way into the world yesterday at 10:15 pm. Mom, dad, brother, and sister are all doing well!
Yesterday was also CSA day…
The boxes were heeeeeavy. Why? Oh, that watermelon right there. Hauling the shares out of the cooler definitely wore me out.
This week’s share contained:
- Amaranth
- “Spey” cabbage
- Chinese broccoli
- Lettuce
- Summer squash – Pattypan, my favorite!
- Blond cucumbers
- Irish potatoes
- Garlic
- Leeks
- Sweet corn
- Eggplant
- Basil
- Bell, Anaheim and lipstick peppers
- Slicing, heirloom and Roma tomatoes
- Watermelon
- Paula Red apples
- Flowers from the pick-your-own garden
I left the lettuce, amaranth and spey in the swop box because I am heading to CT to dogsit today and I knew that Gist wouldn’t do anything with those three items. She has been admonished to eat her veggies while I am away!
I made that sweet and sour eggplant (with some green beans from last week added) last night for supper – it’s so nice to have such a delicious eggplant recipe in my arsenal!
I can tell from the light that fall is quickly approaching – the sun is much lower in the sky by the time I leave – by the end of the season I’ll be leaving in the dark. For now, I’m enjoying the gorgeous light…
The sun and heat we’ve had lately has also made the pick-your-own gardens go crazy!
And it’s very exciting to have such gorgeous tomatoes in our shares, especially after all of the talk about blight…
I’ll be in CT for the next few days, something I’m really looking forward to – one last country hurrah before I start work on Monday!

I’ve been noticing the change in light also. Cooler weather means turnips and other delicious root veggies!

OK, I have been so busy lately I’ve been behind on my blogrolls. I see you now have a job, congratulations! Enjoy your last weekend off, and good luck come Monday!
