Day 235 - Tuesday, August 24th 2010 - World Peas CSA, Week 11

In this week’s share:

  • Bitter melon
  • Swiss chard
  • Summer squash

  • Potatoes
  • Corn
  • Eggplant
  • Green peppers
  • Tomatoes
  • McIntosh apples

The apples are so early this year, it’s strange.  Strange, but tasty!

  1. I’m curious from your photo – what is a bitter melon?

    • It is texturally similar to a cucumber and it tastes (as the name implies) bitter. It is common in Asian cooking and is grown by one of the Cambodian farmers that participates in our CSA. I’d never seen, heard of, or tasted it before moving to Lowell but now I’m quite fond of it.

  2. Yum! Our share this week was great also, we got a cantaloupe, which I can’t wait to open up.
