Art is the Handmaid of Human Good

Life in Lowell, Massachusetts, USA

What’s that thing up in the sky?

Could it be… the sun? Yes, it looks like it is – yay! After two weeks of rain, rain, rain we’re finally getting to see some sun.

This has been a pretty bust vacation weather-wise, something I should have remembered from April vacations of yore. Gist and I ended up going to Northampton in the pouring rain for part of the week. Other than the weather it was a very nice trip. We drove down in what looked to be a blizzard: there were some serious white-out conditions on Route 2.
Winter or Spring?
Once we got there we had lunch at ABC (yum) and checked in to our hotel. Our room was very nice and we hung out there until it was time to go to dinner at Pizzaria Paradiso (double yum.) Then we went back to our room and called it a night.

On Monday we decided to venture out for breakfast. The universe has other plans for us. On our way to The Stables Gist’s car started acting funny: making noise and stalling out. Uh oh. So we pulled over and called Dana VW, Gist’s favorite car dealer/repair shop ever. We were able to bring little Lynetta in and get her fixed. Luckily she was still under extended warranty and something that could have cost $800 only ended up costing $100.

While the car was in the shop we decided to “buy, buy, buy, buy, buy”, Gist’s goal for the trip. The lovely folks at Dana had a shuttle that took us downtown where we had lunch at FitzWilliy’s. We then headed back to the hotel to get umbrellas (darn rain) and Gist was nice enough to walk to Webs with me.

Webs was, as always, fun. I was actually looking for something very specific which turned out to be not exactly what I wanted. After being thrown for a small loop I was able to find what I really wanted – on sale to boot!

When I was done at Webs, we headed off to all of our favorite haunts: Thorne’s, Faces, The Mountain Goat, etc. It was fun but we didn’t do a great job with our “buy” resolution. To top off a nice day, we were able to pick up Gist’s car and meet Jeremy for dinner at Paul and Elizabeth’s.

On Tuesday we woke up, checked out and had breakfast at Esselon Café. It was delicious:
Then we headed off to Barnes & Noble so Gist could spend her many, many birthday gift cards. After that it was back to Lowell in time to take pictures of the flood and go to trivia. We placed third! Yay us!

To close, some flood pictures:

  2. We have seen the same ‘sun’ phenomenon here in NY too. I actually got my first sunburn of the season yesterday!!! It’s a miracle 🙂
