Happy American Craft Beer Week – Wednesday, Thursday & Friday

Harpoon UFO

Wednesday brought me a nice, cold and refreshing Harpoon UFO after a very vigorous yoga class.  The sweat was pouring off of me in buckets (gross, I know) and I needed to replace fluids 😉

Lagunitas's We're Only In It For The Money

Thursday brought a lot of errands, by far the most pleasant was my visit to The Liquor Shop in Tyngsborough. If you’re local, you should definitely check them out – they have an amazing beer selection. I must have spent at least a half-hour looking at their stock and picking out my beers for the rest of the week.  (I may have even done a little dance of joy, causing the owner to giggle and then card me twice.)

One of my first picks was Lagunitas Brewing Company’s We’re Only In It For The Money – I’ll admit it, the label* influenced my decision.  So did the fact that it’s a Belgian-style Tripel.  The beer itself was quite tasty but, my, did it pack a punch!  I was looped after finishing this 22 oz. bottle!

Stone Arrogant Bastard Ale

Oh, Friday. How busy you were!  Friday was one of those non-stop days where I was just going, going, going – it was all fun work – gardening and cooking, mostly – but there was a lot of it to do and it took all day.  This bottle of Stone Brewing Company’s Arrogant Bastard Ale was the quiet eye in my storm of activity.  It was enjoyed after I had planted 33 pots, glazed a ham and made tabouli but before I had washed a trilloin dishes, and made toasted hummus (which was really easy and came out great, so yay).

I had been wanting to try this ever since Yovani and I saw Beer Wars last month and I was not disappointed.  This stuff is good.  Very hoppy** and easy-to-drink, it was the perfect taking-a-break-in-the-afternoon beer.

So that rounds out the work-week (heh).  For my weekend beers, I have one old fave and one that I’ve been dying to try.  This weekend looks to be a fun one – we’re having a picnic in honor of Gist’s birthday at the gorgeous DeCordova Museum today (the reason for all of yesterday’s activity, and a source of new recipes 🙂 ), we have friends spending the night tonight  and tomorrow we’re hoping to head into Boston to see some friends at the SoWa Art Walk (and to poke around and look at art, of course).  I hope everyone reading this has a lovely weekend!

* Lagunitas brewed a whole series of beers in honor of the 40th anniversary of the release of each Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention album – I think that’s pretty awesome!

** Katy, I don’t presume that you read this, but if you do, you’d *really* like Stone Arrogant Bastard!
