Sandy Point

Hannaford, May 18th 2009

  • 8 oz. of Hannaford sour cream for $.69
  • 1 bag of organic lentils for $1.35
  • 1 can on Swanson vegetable broth for $.87 (the best price in the area!)
  • 1 bunch of six bananas (1.56 lb.) for $.76
  • 1 lb. of carrots for $.69
  • 1 bunch of celery for $1.59
  • 1 bunch of parsley for $1.69
  • 1 cuke for $.59
  • 1 head of green leaf lettuce for $1.29
  • 1 jumbo red onion (.89 lb.) for $.78
  • 1 package of fresh organic dill for $2.29
  • 1 bunch of scallions for $.49

Total – $13.08.  This made the most amazing rhubarb-lentil soup that I ate for most of the week and haven’t stopped thinking of since.
Nancy was kind enough to give me some, okay a lot, of rhubarb from her garden. There is going to be a rhubarb-palooza post soon…

Market Basket, May 20th 2009

  • 1 package of prepared pesto for $3.99 – *SO* expensive but my basil hasn’t grown to pesto proportions yet.
  • 1 16 oz. package of mushrooms for $2.29
  • 2 large green peppers for 1.28
  • 2 small zucchini for $.86
  • 2 small summer squash for $.85
  • 1 jumbo red onion (1.26 lb.) for $.87 (An aside – the red onion I bought at Hannaford was $.89 a pound, Market Basket’s was $.69)
  • 1 quart of whole milk ricotta for $2.99
  • Mozzarella for $1.69
  • 1 bag of frozen spinach for $1.29
  • 1 package of lasagna noodles for $1.39

Total – 17.50.  This made two veggie lasagnas – one for us and one for a friend.  Ours was nommed throughout the week.

Portsmouth NH Lilac Festival

Trader Joe’s, May 23rd 2009

  • Light brown organic sugar for $2.99
  • 1 quart of dark amber maple syrup for $17.99
  • 2 portabella mushrooms for $1.50

Total – $22.48.  This made rhubarb muffins and the portabellas topped a pizza.

My total for the week of May 18th – 24th – $53.06.  Not bad, considering the syrup.

What happened in 1620?

Trader Joe’s, today

  • 1 loaf of sourdough bread (because I haven’t figured out/gotten around to making my own) for $1.99
  • 1 pint of heavy cream for $1.99
  • 1 quart of milk for $.99
  • 10 oz. of Salem blue cheese for $3.69
  • 1 quart of veggie broth for $1.99

Total – $10.65

Market Basket, today (because TJ’s didn’t have leeks – grrrrrrrr!)

  • 1 bunch of leeks for $2.99
  • 1 quart of strawberries for $2.49 (because I still have some rhubarb left and that means pie!)

Total – $5.48

All of the photos in this post were taken last weekend, a lovely, long, Memorial Day holiday weekend!  I’ve left the best for last…
