Things that are awesome Friday – UTEC Fresh Roots & The Lowell Folk Festival!

# 1.  Week two of our UTEC Fresh Roots CSA – Tweed Squares. Have I ever heard of a Tweed Square? No. Do I know what one is? No. Do I care? Not at all, they are delicious!

#2. The Lowell Folk Festival!!! The largest free folk festival in the country and my absolute favorite weekend of the summer. Music, food, fun, friends, crafts – it’s a blast!

This week’s share contained garlic chives, kale, chard, napa cabbage, lettuce, arugula, snap peas, summer squash, blond carrots, & new potatoes. The fruit share was local honey!

Nectarine & Radish Salsa

Tasty, versatile, easy, and refreshing – what more could you ask for out of a summer dish?  This salsa tastes great and could be served as a dip for tortilla chips, with quesadillas, or as a topping for grilled chicken, fish or shrimp.  AND it features radishes, one of my favorite vegetables.

Does Massachusetts ever see the sun?

Jamaica was lovely and, more importantly, sunny! Gist and I had a great time sitting by the pool and on the beach, drinking all sorts of fruity beverages, playing with charming children, and celebrating Kristin and Mike’s wedding.  It was the perfect getaway!

Still raining here in Lowell, Massachusetts but on the bright side, Tutto Bene is open for business!

I have been pretty busy these past couple of days getting ready to go to Jamaica but I did take some time out yesterday to visit Tutto Bene, a new wine and cheese cellar that just opened in Lowell.
