One of the nicest things about being unemployed? The fact that I can run errands between 8:30 and 10:30am on a Monday. Nobody’s running errands at that time – it’s me and about six old men. I love it. So what did I buy?
1 5lb. bag of onions, on sale for $1.99
1 Granny Smith apple for $.53 (for Wednesday’s supper)
1 box of clementines for $7.49
5 bananas for $.55
5 Greek yogurts for $5
1 small wheel of brie – on sale for $1.99
1 loaf of saloio bread (I love it), on sale for $1.59
1 package of 6 whole grain bagels for $1.99
My total? $21.13. I’ll be back on Thursday with a recipe. Enjoy the nice sunny and warm (for New England in the winter) weather!
I love grocery shopping early Monday a.m. too. Just look out for those old guys, will ya? Once in Fairway on the upper west side, I watched in horror as one fell straight down like a plank in slow motion pushing his cart on ahead between the fish and the organic beef, and then spent the next 10 minutes anxiously waiting for the fire department and EMTs to resuscitate him. That can wreck a day… a week, even.
